During 2004, there were 4,976 admissions to drug and alcohol rehab programs in Wyoming. In 2003, there were 5,816 treatment admissions in the state. The number of drug and alcohol treatment admissions in Wyoming during 2002 was 5,244.

According to a national survey done in 2003-2004, approximately 11,000 or 2.63% of the population of Wyoming citizens reported needing but not receiving drug and/or alcohol rehab for illicit drug use within the past year.

The drug situation in Wyoming is as grim as any other state, showing a clear-cut need for drug rehabilitation programs that can help.

Demand for cocaine in the state has declined and crack cocaine can be found in Wyoming, but not in large quantities. Despite this, prices for cocaine have remained stable in Wyoming.

Black tar heroin imported from Mexico is exclusively available in Wyoming. Although, in general, heroin abuse does not present a significant problem in Wyoming for law enforcement officers.

Methamphetamine remains the largest drug threat throughout the state of Wyoming.

Marijuana is still the most widely available and abused illicit drug in Wyoming. Marijuana produced in Mexico is the most common type available. However marijuana is also cultivated in British Columbia, Canada and is usually of a higher purity.

The use of club drugs has also increased in the state of Wyoming. The drugs GHB and MDMA are currently the most widely abused as they are the most popular. These drugs and other club drugs are typically supplied from Colorado.

The abuse of prescription drugs continues in Wyoming. The most commonly abused prescriptions include depressants and painkillers such as Valium, Percocet, Percodan, and Dilaudid.

A national survey done in 2003-2004 indicates that approximately 33,000 or over 7% of Wyoming citizens over 12 reported past month use of an illicit drug.
